1. JUDGMENT AND INSECURITY OFTEN CREEPS IN
If you find yourself judging others for how they exist or live their lives, then you 100% without a doubt take everything personally. When I scroll through the comment sections on social media, I am saddened by the lack of fulfillment people have to feel, in order to comment hurtful things to others. No one is affecting your life that much to feel HATE at passionate levels. But it certainly would feel that way, if you made everything people do… about YOU!
2. YOU’RE ALWAYS TRYING TO PROVE YOURSELF
Do you feel like you’re always trying to prove yourself or gain the approval of people around you? It’s a very toxic quality that can harm you and push others away, and it’s a key sign that you take things too personally. Here’s how to tell if you’re doing this:
YOU CAN’T HANDLE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM
People who provide genuine, positive constructive criticism, it’s not a personal attack. It’s someone trying to help you learn and improve. But if constructive criticism makes you feel insulted, you’re taking it personally and feeling upset at the lack of approval from others.
Understand that you don’t have any control over what people say.
You may have had the desire at some point of wishing to control what others say. You can’t. People will think things. They will say things you don’t like. Other people may be mean. You can’t stop that. But you can control how you react and respond.
You can choose to be assertive. You can choose to limit your interactions with this person. You can choose to not give this person your power by allowing them to upset you. Focus on what you can do instead of what the other person is doing or saying.
